Generating content using AI tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT can seem to be convenient in an effort to rank higher in search engines like Google and Bing, but it can have consequences in the future
Is ChatGPT AI generated content duplicate?
A lot has been written about the use of ChatGPT bot and other AI tools to generate content. The focus has been more on who owns the copyrights of AI-generated content. I am going to focus on duplicate content.
Why AI Generated Content is Duplicate
If you visit ChatGPT and try to ask it “Who is Obama?”, it will generate an answer for you quickly. The answer might be so accurate that you may not need to do any edits.
If you proceed further to check the content with a plagiarism checker software, it will pass as 100% plagiarism free. This is because the content is new and has not been crawled, indexed, and added to the database of plagiarism checkers. Therefore, you will be excited and proceed to generate content in bulk under similar topics in an effort to improve your search rankings.
What you might not be aware of is that there are millions of people also using ChatGPT to generate similar content. For example, any person who asks ChatGPT AI “Who is Obama” will get a similar or closely related answer as yours. Therefore, we will have millions of people with similar content published on the web.

Search engines like Google and Bing, will with time crawl all that content and identify the similarities. They will then mark it as being duplicate or low quality which will result in a drop in search rankings.
AI tools like ChatGPT should only be used for coming up with content ideas or for learning not generating final content to be published on the web.
