Mailchimp has announced that it will be reducing email contacts and sending limits in the free marketing plan.
Mailchimp Free Plan Limits in 2023
On February 7, 2023, Mailchimp announced that starting from March 10, 2023, new limits on the free plan will be introduced. The limits are as follows;
- Contact Limits: You are allowed to add up to 500 contacts to your email list. If you exceed 500 contacts, you will not be able to send email campaigns until you upgrade or archive or delete extra contacts.
- Sending Limits: You can send up to 1000 emails per month and 500 emails per day.
History of Mailchimp limit Changes
Prior to August 2022, the free plan contact list limit was 2000 and you were allowed to send up to 10,000 emails per month. After august 2022, the contact list limit was reduced to 500 emails, and the maximum you could send was reduced to 2500 emails per month. From March 10, 2023, the send limit will reduce further to 1,000 per month.
Since Mailchimp was acquired by Intuit on September 13, 2021, the free plan limits are drastically being scaled down rendering the free marketing plan unhelpful.
The best Mailchimp alternative that you can switch to is Aweber. In Aweber’s free plan you can send up to 3000 emails a month and its paid plans are cheaper than Mailchimp and ConvertKit.
