Slack has announced that it is gradually rolling out updates that affect sidebar sorting and section customization. Some users have already received the changes in their dashboard.
Slack Sidebar Sorting Updates
Slack’s February 2023 update comes with major sidebar sorting changes. Most users are having issues with the changes because they have disorganized their custom sorting settings and limited how to customize sections.
If you want to revert to your old sidebar follow the procedure below. However, not all sorting options can be reverted;
- On Slack Desktop, go to Preferences which is under your avatar or profile picture
- Click Sidebar Menu
- Under Always show in the sidebar, select the checkbox of what you want to appear in the sidebar (Unreads, Direct Messages, Mentions, Files, People, and user Groups, etc, )
You can sort your sidebar alphabetically, by more recent or by priority. More sorting options for individual sections are available under the preferences>sidebar section.
If you are in more than 30 channels, the sidebar settings will only display Unreads. Users on paid plans can filter Unreads based on sidebar sections.
Slack updates
Slack is among the many mobile and web applications that send forced updates. This means that whether you like or do not like a new version, you will automatically and without notice receive the updates.
