Godaddy has announced that it is shutting down Uniregistry, a domain registrar and marketplace company that it acquired on February 11, 2020.
Uniregistry was one of the best platforms for buying and selling domains in bulk. Users loved it because of how easy it was to manage and transfer domains.
Uniregistry Shutdown
Uniregistry will shut down in the first half of 2023. Users have been asked to migrate their domains to Godaddy or any domain registrar of their choice. Uniregistry has sent a notice to users that it will start migrating emails in 30 days. Other services offered by Uniregistry will also become part of Godaddy.
In response to an inquiry about issues with Uni Apps, Uniregistry indicated that any domain updates should be made on the web browser (Uniregistry.com) as the apps will be closed.
Why Shutdown?
It has been only 3 years since Godaddy acquired Uniregistry. The quick shutdown of Uniregistry has raised concerns about why Godaddy acquired it in the first place. Richard Waters from Financial Times describes buying and killing of competitors before they gain momentum as the “buy and kill” tactic.
If you are looking for Uniregistry alternatives then we recommend Namecheap or Dynadot.
